Triton SunGuard

This is the school project for DSGN 100 (Design 100) class which allowed me to explore the accessible environment around the campus and create the kiosk with UI/UX design process. Me and my team members built the physical kiosk and hi-fi prototype.

Problem

The main problem that we found was that most people that went to the beach did not have enough protection against the sun which could lead to them getting severe sunburn. They might be unaware of the UV index and which SPF of sunscreen to use. We thought it was important to bring up a reassurance of how critical sunscreen is.

Location

The beach has a large population of visitors which can make it inconvenient to leave once already there. Most people come to have fun and relax and don’t want to worry about packing and carrying items. Also, beach is where skin get exposed the most due to water activities and swimwears which might lead to unsecured sun protection.

  1. User Research (interview)

5 out of 7 interviewees mentioned their satisfaction towards beach experience will get higher if they can access sunscreen easily on the beach.

  • Variety in visitors’ backgrounds

  • 7 out of 7 people mentioned that they visit beach during the day time

  • 5 out of 7 people visit beach to do beach activities: surfing, beach volleyball, swimming, etc

Overall, Sunscreen is everyone’s essential item to pack for a beach day

2. User Personas and Story Boards

3. Hi-fi Prototype

3. Kiosk Showcase

In the Winter quarter of 2023, we had the chance to present our Triton SunGaurd. Visitors were able to experience the high-fidelity prototype firsthand, simulating its use in their real-life environments.
